Gordon K. Teal
Our name honors a semiconductor pioneer whose work connected material quality with practical progress.
The crystal foundation
At Bell Labs, Teal and John Little adapted the Czochralski method to grow high-quality germanium single crystals. Their work helped enable junction transistors with greatly improved performance.
Crystal-growth history · Computer History MuseumFrom possibility to commercial silicon
Under Teal’s research leadership, Texas Instruments introduced the first commercial silicon transistors. Scientific depth became a product the world could use.
